the area, such as the small, juicy tomatoes, the white-skinned eggplants, the

The excellent growing conditions - high daytime
temperatures and humidity at night, along with the blessed volcanic earth-
produce 36 varieties of grape. (Local farmers form the vines into the
shape of baskets by twisting them, thus protecting them from the harsh Aegean
winds.)
